Has anyone thought of……..?

Famous words of the the person who’s not interested in committing.  If I had a dollar for every time I have had an individual point out a flaw/error/oversight/etc all the while couching it behind – “Has anyone thought this through?”

In some cases, I’ll give them a pass, but its a crowd-like tendency to have mastered the skill of poking holes without mastering the skill of tackling problems.  The world is full of armchair quarterbacks, pastors, CEO’s, leaders, etc and we are experiencing a dearth of people who can not only notice a problem, but have the skill and discipline to SOLVE the problem.  Oddly enough, the master armchairers work for a few years and wonder/complain about the lack of upward draft for their position.  Newsflash – your boss doesn’t need another critic, she needs a problem solver who has inward drive to tackle issues.

This tendency is especially maddening when it pertains to the person’s own lane.  If you have the privilege of a certain amount of autonomy within your lane of work, use that to it’s maximum not to get away with whatever you can, but to notice problems and tackle them.  I tell our incoming staff members – “Leave your job better than when you found it.”

God gave you gifts, talents, and abilities – don’t use them to point out flaws, use them to notice flaws and then solve the issues.  Time is short, after all.  Not May 21st short, apparently, but short…… ;-)
